Audiometer systems

An audiometer is a medical device used to evaluate hearing loss during an audiology test.

Usually, it is an individual piece of hardware that delivers pure tones of controlled intensity to one ear at a time, to which a patient respond when they can hear the tone. Many modern audiometer devices can either be used alone or connected to a computer and integrated with hearing conservation databases. Audiometers are basic accessories at Ear Nose and Throat clinics, ENT departments in hospitals and in audiology clinics.

A high quality audiometer coupled with a high quality sound proof chamber are essential for diagnosing and follow up hearing tests of tinnitus, vertigo, dizziness and Meniere's disease patients. The testing of hearing ability by audiometer shows parameters of symmetry versus asymmetry, air conduction versus bone conduction, speech recognition in every ear and the dynamic of hearing level over time. Sometimes it is possible to find improvement: in patients after acute acoustic trauma, treated ear infection, stapedectomy in otosclerosis sufferers or patients with Meniere's disease who received effective treatment for decreasing the amount of fluids in their internal ear.
